Using data gathered from focus groups and individual interviews, this report outlines the challenges for the successful implementation of the NDIS, highlights the specific needs of carers and families involved with Indigenous people with psychiatric disabilities, and discusses how Indigenous people socially and culturally construct mental illness. The conclusion of the report includes detailed recommendations and specific guidelines designed to maximise the success of the NDIS implementation in rural and remote Indigenous communities.
