This factsheet explains what the Tuberculosis Bacille Calmette Guerin (BCG) vaccine is and when it should used. The vaccines recommended use is for Indigenous newborn babies and children under 5 years old (with no previous BCG) living in Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory and for newborns of parents or immediate family with leprosy. The factsheet also gives information about administering the vaccine and what response and care is needed for the vaccine injection site.

When to use this resource
At the birth of a newborn baby to Indigenous parents living in the Northern Territory in an Indigenous community for longer than three months at a time. It is also recommended to administer to newborn babies of parents who have leprosy or who have close contact with an immediate family member with the disease.
