This resource was developed to educate students on issues related to sexually transmissible infections (STIs), HIV/AIDS, and blood-borne viruses (BBVs). The aim of this resource is twofold: increase students' knowledge about STIs, HIV/AIDS, and BBVs and enhance their capacity to make informed decisions about their health.
The resource is composed of four units and includes a comprehensive range of activities from which the teacher can select from. The units covered include: sex, drugs, and health - setting the context; knowledge and action - increasing relevant knowledge; addressing diversity - gender, power, sexuality, and risk; and maximising choice, minimising risk.
This teaching and learning resource was initially designed for students in years nine and 10 but it is also appropriate for students in years 11 and 12. The resource can also be adapted to suit the needs of students in years seven and eight. As this resource is not an introductory resource, students must have covered some areas of sexuality and health education in prior years.
