The Family violence prevention legal service program (FVPLS) is a Commonwealth Attorney General funded free legal and counselling service for victims of family violence and/or sexual assault who are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders, or whose partner or children are Aboriginal Torres Strait Islanders. There are over 30 FVPLS units throughout Australia
The FVPLS program provides culturally sensitive assistance to Indigenous victim-survivors of family violence and sexual assault through the provision of legal assistance, court support, casework and counselling. FVPLS delivers the following services:
The FVPLS interprets the term 'family violence' broadly, including violence within a broad range of family relationships; for example, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
