Overview

The Ngurra Ninti: clever for housing, healthy house living skills project was a community based development and training project conducted in the four western desert communities of Kintore, Mt Liebig, Papunya and Ikuntji. It involved the training and support of Indigenous people to be safe and healthy in their homes. The aims of the project included:

• providing a strong and positive focus on housing issues in each community so when problems arose they could be handled with confidence
  
• producing a research report on issues and needs related to housing on the western desert communities
• helping people to improve living conditions that impact on health
• supporting key Anangu Ngurra Ninti workers on each community to be confident community facilitators and trainers
• providing practical training for community residents in, for example, reporting maintenance problems and basic repairs and maintenance
