Burden of influenza and other respiratory viruses among Aboriginal children in the top end

Overview

This project aimed to define the exact burden (morbidity and mortality) of severe influenza and other respiratory viruses in Indigenous children younger than three years of age. The project examined the hospitalisation rates for Indigenous children with these conditions who were admitted to Royal Darwin Hospital over a two year period.

The financial cost of hospitalisation was also explored with aim to direct future policy recommendations.

This two year project was completed in 2010.
