Kulintja Palyaringkuntjaku project

Overview

The Kulintja Palyaringkuntjaku project means 'to get better thinking'. The project is offered in the Northern Territory, Western Australia and South Australia and is one of the ways that the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women's Council (NPYWC) Youth Team provide support for young people, particularly for those facing both alcohol and other drug (AOD) problems and mental illness.

Kulintja Palyaringkuntjaku project also lobbies and advocates for changes in the way services are delivered by other organisations and the government. It aims to ensure that the combined issues of AOD use and mental illness are addressed adequately and believes that close collaboration with specialist agencies, experts in suicide prevention, AOD treatment, mental health and behavioural management is the key to effective treatment of this issue.

Kulintja Palyaringkuntjaku project works on various areas of need including:

Staff participate in on-going training to ensure they are able to target complex problems facing clients with combined issues of AOD use and mental health disorders.
