Inclusive Community Development: Disability Issues

The main objective of this project is to explore Yolŋu understanding of impairment and thus their worldview of disability. This involves sitting with community members and their families to talk about their experience with disability. These discussions aim to learn from Yolŋu about the different approaches Yolŋu have to members of community with impairment/disability and how balanda services can be directed to help communities and families in the most beneficial way. This is a joint project with Motivation Australia who will travel with the ARDS team to Milingimbi, Ramingining, Galiwin'ku and Gapuwiyak. The outcomes of this research will hopefully shape the delivery of services in Arnhem Land and if successful, other remote centres across Australia.
