Baroona youth healing centre

Overview

Baroona youth healing centre hosts a number of programs which aim to reduce alcohol and other drug use amongst Victorian young Aboriginal people in the Echuca and surrounding areas by providing a safe and culturally-specific healing environment.

The centre is situated at a farm house in the middle of 320 acres and is a 10 minute drive just outside of Echuca. Journey to heal the spirit is a 16 week residential program offered by the centre for young people aged between 14-25 years. Post program follow up support is provided for a time decided by staff and the young person themselves.

Participants are encouraged to create their own healing journey by empowering the individual to identify their strengths, networks, cultural identity and sense of belonging.

The program incorporates a number of important aspects:

A range of services and activities are offered which are appropriate and flexible to address and prevent alcohol and other drug use.

Baroona youth healing centre is part of the Njernda Aboriginal Corporation.
