The Healthy under 5 kids (HU5K) program aims to support the physical, cognitive, psychosocial and behavioural development of Indigenous children in the Northern Territory by enhancing the interaction between primary health care workers and the parents/carers of children being treated.
The key element of the program is a series of age specific child health checks designed to facilitate the prevention, early detection intervention and treatment of common conditions that cause morbidity and early mortality, as well as prompting early referral for the management of more serious or chronic conditions.
