Overview

The Child sexual abuse therapeutic service is a program delivered by the counselling team at the Yorgum Aboriginal Family Counselling Service in Perth. The program follows a framework that aims offer counselling services that are culturally sensitive and relevant to Nyoongar sociology and spirituality.

The following methods are used within the program:

• promotion of protective behaviours by empowering children through narrative, art and visual therapy
• physical, emotional, mental and spiritual healing
• use of Aboriginal language or slang (predominantly Nyoongar)
• recovering and rebuilding of self, family and community.
