The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ecumenical Commission (NATSIEC) aims to provide a forum for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to discuss and take action on issues of:

• faith, mission and evangelism;
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander spirituality and theology; and
• social justice and land rights.

It also aims to:

• help rebuild self-esteem, pride and dignity within Indigenous communities; and
• promote harmony, justice and understanding between Indigenous peoples and the wider community

The NATSIEC is the peak ecumenical Indigenous body in Australia.

A specific project of NATSIEC is 'The Make Indigenous Poverty History'. This project aims to ensure that the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) do not overlook the poverty suffered by Indigenous Peoples around the world, especially in Australia. NATSIEC is calling on all State and Federal governments to commit to adapting the MDGs to ensure that by 2015 the living standards and levels of health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are comparable to those of the rest of Australia.
