The Tasmanian Council on AIDS, Hepatitis & Related Diseases (TasCAHRD) aims to minimise the impact of HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C in the community. To achieve this vision, TasCAHRD works to serve the needs of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS or hepatitis C and also those at risk of HIV or hepatitis C (for example, people who inject drugs). TasCAHRD also provides support to other organisations to improve their response to HIV and hepatitis issues.

The types of services provided by TasCAHRD include:

• HIV/AIDS care and support program (includes one-on-one support and peer support to people living with, or affected by, HIV/AIDS; advocacy; referral; and community education)
• hepatitis C program (offers information, advocacy and referral services to people living with, or at risk of, hepatitis C; and community information and education sessions)
• harm reduction program (includes two needle and syringe program outlets where people have access to sterile injecting equipment, information resources, fact sheets, support, and referral)
• netreach (an online service where trained outreach workers provide HIV and sexual health information to chat room users).

TasCAHRD are also involved in the Drama downunder campaign which is a nation-wide campaign that was developed to address the high rates of sexually transmissible infections (STIs) among gay men in Australia.
