Ministerial Council for Suicide Prevention (MCSP)

Description

The Ministerial Council for Suicide Prevention (MCSP) was formed in Western Australia as part of a State-wide strategy to address the problem of youth suicide that had emerged as a concern in the late 1980s. Since its inception, the MCSP has broadened its scope to include suicide prevention in all high risk populations, regardless of age.

The MCSP monitors and extends suicide prevention initiatives across the State. A major focus of the MCSP is the implementation of the One life suicide prevention strategy. This strategy aims to reduce suicide among those age and population sub-groups known to be at high risk of suicide - this includes prevention of suicide among Aboriginal youth.
