Murri Watch

 

Description

Murri Watch is a community based organisation located in Queensland. It delivers a range of services to Indigenous people who are affected by public drunkenness, detained in watchhouses and youth detention centres, or who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Murri Watch commenced its services with the Diversionary centre program in Brisbane, in response to the increasing concerns of Elders about the high numbers of Indigenous deaths in custody in the 1980s. Murri Watch has since grown from this initial program to its current position where it delivers nine discrete programs in Brisbane, Townsville, Palm Island and Mackay. These include:
