Description

Wirraka Maya Health Service is an Australian General Practice Accreditation Ltd incorporated organisation established in 1993. Wirraka Maya Health Service provides services to the greater Port Hedland and South Hedland area, and communities at Strelley, Woodstock and Warralong, in Western Australia.

As an Aboriginal health service they:

• are aware of and respect the diversity of Aboriginal culture
• appreciate the role Aboriginal community members themselves play in caring for the health of their families
• recognise the important contributions Aboriginal traditional healers make to the area of health and medicine
• strive to make the organisation more responsive to cultural rules and recognize the limits of culture
• value the skills and experience of Aboriginal people and the strength they bring to the organisation.

The service runs an Indigenous family healing program, from which both men's (the Grumpy old fella group) and women's (Yarning up) groups have formed. These groups enjoy social connections and shared activities.
