Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation

The Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation is an independent, Aboriginal controlled health service that aims to improve the health and wellbeing of residents in the Miwatj region through comprehensive primary health care services.

Representatives from communities across the Miwatj region in East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, comprise the board of directors who administer the Corporation.

Clinical services are provided at the clinic in Nhulunbuy, and to nearby communities and homeland centres on the Gove Peninsula via visiting staff. Public health programs that focus on nutrition, tobacco control, ear health and eye health form an important part of the operational services of Miwatj Health, as do the emotional and social wellbeing programs that utilise traditional practices and forms of authority.

Advocacy is a key function of Miwatj Health to ensure Aboriginal community control of the programs and services is sustained.
