Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD)

The aim of the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD) is to support international and interdisciplinary collaborations in research focusing on chronic non-communicable diseases. GACD places particular emphases on cardiovascular disease (mainly heart disease and stroke), type 2 diabetes, chronic respiratory conditions and several cancers.

GACD focuses on the needs of low and middle income countries and on low income populations in more developed countries.

The National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia is a member GACD and is currently working on the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations.

Funding is available for periods of up to five years and undertaken in two stages:

Researchers based in Australia wishing to be considered for funding by the NHMRC under the GACD are requested to submit a Letter of intent outlining their proposal.
