In August 2012 the Australian Government announced further funding to make the Stephanie Alexander kitchen garden program more affordable, accessible and flexible to Australian primary schools.

Kitchen garden schools commit to:

All Australian schools with a primary enrollment or curriculum are eligible, including Government and non Government schools. The majority of schools will not receive government funding, but will receive subsidised teacher training and resource materials to deliver the program. Schools that meet certain criteria for disadvantage will be able to apply for grants of up to $11,000 (inc. GST) to help with the establishment of kitchen and garden infrastructure and to offset teacher training costs. Qualifying schools will be notified of their eligibility for grants automatically as they progress through the online application.
