The Commonwealth scholarships program (formally known as the Commonwealth learning scholarships program) was introduced in 2004 and provides financial support to eligible Indigenous students to assist with the costs associated with higher education. There are two scholarships; one for general education costs and one for accommodation costs.

In addition, there are the Indigenous access scholarships, a once in a lifetime scholarship available to Indigenous students to assist them to access higher education. These scholarships are aimed at commencing students undertaking approved enabling courses.
