This course provides entry level professional knowledge and skills for students intending to work as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers. As well as a theoretical component, the course provides practical experience in working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients in the form of a vocational placement.
The course includes 13 compulsory units, such as Work in an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander primary health care context, Undertake basic health assessments, and Provide information about social and emotional support. Students are also required to complete one elective unit from a list that includes mental health, maternal and child health, and alcohol and other drugs.
This course consists of a mix of face-to-face teaching and external study. The face-to-face teaching is delivered on campus in Toowoomba and at other locations around Queensland. The course duration is 12 months.
