Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA) 2nd national conference

Overview

The theme of this conference is Healthy footprints - leading generational change. The conference will look at how allied health professionals are helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to lead healthy lives and create brighter futures for themselves, their families and their communities. It will focus on the importance of allied health for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and how the allied health, medical, nursing and Aboriginal Health Worker workforces can contribute to sustainable approaches to generational change and improve access, affordability, appropriateness of health service delivery and promote health careers for our future generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

HealthInfoNet Cafe

Jane Burns ran an Internet cafe at this conference. There were about 200 delegates from a wide variety of fields, including nurses, physiotherapists, audiologists, nutritionists and students.

Delegates were exposed to models of governance, self-determination, intergenerational problems and solutions and examples of individual and organisational leadership at local, national and international levels. Showcasing both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous presenters, the conference featured stories of success, innovation and collaboration – as well as challenges and solutions.

Although many delegates knew about the website, it was an opportunity to let them know about new reviews and the Overview PowerPoint, many people don’t know that this is on the Health facts section.
