The Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council (CS&HISC) is reviewing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker (A&TSIHW) qualifications and competency standards to ensure they are current and relevant to existing and emerging job roles.
The review has been funded by Health Workforce Australia (HWA) in response to industry changes identified by the HWA's 2011 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker project interim report (see link below).
The review will incorporate updating the Health Training Package in line with the new streamlined model of Training Packages agreed by the National Quality Council (now the National Skills Standards council - NSSC) in December 2010.
The project is in the establishment phase, whereby an Industry Reference Group (IRG) will be set up to guide the project, provide vital industry feedback and support communications with key stakeholders.
National Forums are to be conducted in May and June 2012, to engage stakeholders in an extensive consultation process. These forums are running in conjunction to the CHC08 Community Services and HLT07 Heath Training Packages forums. Dates and locations for these forums are available from the CS&HISC website (see link below). (Note that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers (A&TSIHW) Workshops are to be held at a different time to the National Information Forums. When registering, select the Forum you would like to attend as well as the A&TSIHW Workshop).
