A collection of community interest groups in Katherine (Top End of the Northern Territory) have moved to support the introduction of a low aromatic fuel in their town.
About 70 representatives gathered in Katherine to discuss how to address a spike in petrol sniffing in the region. The meeting heard that children as young as six were known to be sniffing petrol in one community.
A health worker moved for the group to push for the rollout of the low aromatic Opal fuel in Katherine; the group is expected to vote on the proposal at a later date.
