Dialysis unit in Katherine likely to go ahead

Date posted: 25 November 2011

A proposed dialysis unit in Katherine is likely to go ahead as planned despite the concerns of residents and the Town Council. The Country Liberal politician Willem Westra van Holthe had voiced concern that the dialysis facility might drive down property prices and bring itinerants too close to homes and a school, with some locals agreeing. However, Mayor Shepherd pointed out that Katherine desperately needs another dialysis unit, and that one had been built in an urban area in Alice Springs without causing any concern. Katherine Town Council Alderman also says it makes sense for a dialysis centre to be built in a residential area because it is where a lot young families and elderly people live.
