A new centre has been launched to support primary health care centres in delivering high quality care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
One21seventy, The National Centre for Quality Improvement in Indigenous Primary Care transpired from the Audit and Best Practice in Chronic Disease (ABCD) project which provided support to 120 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services to use the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) methods. One21Seventy reflects the vision of increasing life expectancy from 1 year in infancy, 21 years in youth and beyond 70 years across the lifespan.
Through the use of CQI Indigenous primary health care services are achieving improvements in health outcomes. One21seventy supports health providers to measure and improve quality of care in a range of illnesses affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples including maternal and child health, diabetes, renal disease, hypertension and coronary heart disease, mental health and rheumatic heart disease.
It is anticipated there will be four courses offered through the Centre and underpinning the courses a range of resources to better understand the quality improvement pathway and facilitate the transfer of knowledge to others.
