Aboriginal Community Worker of the Year awarded at Coffs Harbour

Garry Matthews has won the Aboriginal Community Worker of the Year Award 2011 in recognition of his contribution to his local Coffs Harbour community in New South Wales (NSW).

Garry is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Abcare Coffs Harbour, a community-based Aboriginal organisation delivering family and social support services. He is also Secretary of Coffs Harbour Community Care Options, is on the local Aboriginal Interagency Committee, and is a foundation member and current Treasurer of Aboriginal Child Family and Community Care State Secretariat (AbSec- NSW). Gary is also Treasurer on the National Executive for the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC).

Coffs Harbour mayor Keith Rhoades presented Garry and the other winners - Mark Flanders and the Aboriginal Health team at Coffs Harbour Health Campus - with their awards at a formal dinner on 25 October 2011.
