Health warnings now on popular alcoholic drinks labels

Beginning from 12 July, approximately 80% of alcohol drinks sold in Australia will have 'cigarette-style' health warnings on their labels. The voluntary introduction pre-empts the Federal Government's pending decision on mandating warning labels on all alcoholic drinks. The labels were developed by DrinkWise Australia and warn about the dangers of underage drinking, excessive alcohol consumption and drinking while pregnant. They will also direct readers to an educational website, and other supportive educational material will be available in liquor outlets.
