WA state budget 2011-12: alcohol and other drug sector

The Minister for Mental Health and Disability Services Helen Morton announced funding for the alcohol and other drug (AOD) sector in a budget bulletin 2011-12. Budget allocation includes funding for new social housing for high needs clients of AOD services and the expansion of AOD support services in the North-West of WA; including the provision of employment for up to 31 additional AOD workers and a new counselling and sobering up centre. The Drug and Alcohol Office of WA has been allocated $2.8 million to strengthen the range of AOD service responses for Aboriginal people, their families and communities in the metropolitan region, as well as $2.2 million to develop state-wide Aboriginal Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder prevention initiatives.
