The Federal Government has invested $150 million as part of the Alice Springs transformation plan, a direct spin-off from an intervention which involved opening the Apmere Mwerre Visitor Park, a new hostel surrounded by a high security fence, where residents are vetted and alcohol is banned. The Alice Springs transformation plan includes upgraded town-camp housing, temporary accommodation, buying liquor licences to reduce the extraordinary proliferation of outlets, and programs to curb anti-social behaviour.
