Mr Mick Gooda the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner delivered an address at the National Press Club in Canberra where he set out his goals for his term as Social Justice Commissioner. He identified that recognition of Indigenous Australians in the Constitution is a necessary step towards what he termed a 'reconciled Australia'. Mr Gooda asserts that without this Constitutional recognition it will not be possible to 'close the gap' in Indigenous health outcomes and life expectancies.
