Climate change a threat to Torres Strait communities

Date posted: 29 July 2014

The Chair of the Torres Strait Regional Authority, Joseph Elu, says it's critical for communities in the Torres Strait region to prepare now for the impacts of climate change.

His warning comes after the release and signing off on the Torres Strait climate change strategy for 2014 to 2018, with Mr Elu and Mayors Pedro Stephen and Fred Gela agreeing to the strategy.

Mr Elu has told Torres Strait Radio that with the impacts of rising sea levels on the region likely to be severe, communities must be aware of the measures they can take to deal with the issue.
