Water Corporation Indigenous employment strategy giving hope to young workers

Date posted: 29 July 2014

The Water Corporation, in Western Australia (WA), is experiencing significant success with their Indigenous employment program, seeing a 36% increase in Indigenous employment in the past 12 months.

The program provides opportunities for Indigenous youth to join the water authority and work in a number of positions such as catchment rangers. Caiden Kelly, a participant in the program, said his job at the Water Corporation had given him the confidence to mentor other young Indigenous men. 'The young blokes look at us and are interested in how we have bought cars and are looking at buying houses for our families, and they want the same opportunities,' he said.
