On Wednesday, 6 October 2010, WA Racing and Gaming Minister Terry Waldron declared two East Pilbara Aboriginal communities alcohol-free zones.
It is now illegal to sell, supply, possess, or bring liquor in to the communities of Irrungadji, located within the town of Nullagine, and Punmu, 680 kilometres north-east of Newman.
This brings to 12 the number of Aboriginal communities in the state where such restrictions have been declared.
