National Aboriginal and Islander Children's Day (NAICD) is an annual event celebrated on 4 August each year. NAICD was established by the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC) in 1988.
The 2010 theme is 'Value My Culture, Value Me', and focuses on the need for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to know they are loved and valued, and to have every opportunity to nurture and explore a healthy and strong sense of self and community.
The theme also aims to promote new attitudes and forge a new pathway of understanding for the benefit of all Australians. Building and improving relationships based on mutual respect, ending disadvantage for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families creates equality for all in the broader Australian community.
