A social worker in Mount Isa has called for the establishment of a detoxification centre to address the high number of Indigenous residents battling with alcohol and other drug issues. The worker noted that although some detoxification services are available at the Mount Isa Hospital and substance abuse rehabilitation is offered at the Kalkadoon Aboriginal Sobriety House (KASH), more is needed because the current services are struggling with the high demand and this is having a detrimental impact on the local Indigenous community.
