Diabetes expert calls for bigger Indigenous workforce

Professor Paul Zimmet, Director Emeritus of the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute has called for an increase in the 'basic grass roots workforce' of community based Indigenous Health Workers, to help drive major lifestyle changes and reduce the chronic disease burden among Indigenous Australians.

Professor Zimmet is widely recognised for his studies into type 2 diabetes and authored the first national study on diabetes and obesity in Australia.
