Yesterday the NSW Government and State Opposition signed the Close the gap statement of intent, marking a positive step towards achieving health status equality and closing the gap in life expectancy between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians by the year 2030.
Dr Michael Steiner, President of the NSW Australian Medical Association, commended the move saying it reflected a strong commitment from the NSW Government and Opposition to address the issue of Indigenous disadvantage in health and wellbeing.
