After his five years as social justice commissioner, Tom Calma will be the national coordinator for tackling Indigenous smoking for the next three years. While 18% of the Australian population smoke, a disproprtionate 50% of the Indigenous population smoke, Mr Calma said. He added that a campaign with a different message to those in mainstream anti-smoking campaigns needs to be targeted at Aboriginal and Torres Strait people.
