Sign language 'alive' in Indigenous communities

Date posted: 18 September 2013

Elizabeth Ellis, a Ngaanyatjarra elder, has welcomed the launch of an online database that documents the traditional use of her sign language, a first of it's kind in Australia.

The database is a result of the Ilytem-ilytem project; a collaboration between the University of Melbourne and the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education.
