Closing the gap - strengthening Indigenous communities

Ahead of the announcement of the 2010 Federal Budget, The Hon Jenny Macklin MP (Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs) has released an outline the Government's current strategies dedicated to Closing the gap in life expectancy and life opportunities for Indigenous Australians.

The media release covers the strategies and programs currently rolling out under the new partnership approach through the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) as well as new initiatives that will be funded in the 2010 Budget. These include:

The Government will work in partnership with Indigenous individuals and groups to develop and deliver sustainable programs and services to meet the specific needs of Indigenous communities.
