The proportion of the federal budget that will be invested in Aboriginal affairs is not yet clear. Professor Jon Altman, a leading Indigenous policy researcher, is calling for some of the proposed mining profits tax to be spent on Aboriginal affairs. He added that he had hoped Rudd's government would find ways to hypothecate, or quarantine, a proportion of any super profits tax to put into a fund to address Indigenous disadvantage and 'close the gap'. Indigenous Health Minister Warren Snowdon refused to release the exact amount that would be invested in Indigenous affairs before the release of the budget.
