Seven projects underway from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce project

Seven projects are now being implemented by Health Workforce Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce program in response to findings from their Growing our future: final report.

The program looked at current challenges facing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce and potential future actions to build capacity. Major consultations took place with health services and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers, health service managers and other health professionals, and advice was sought from three project advisory groups that represent major national stakeholders in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.

The seven projects are being developed to support some of the 27 recommendations identified in the report.
The projects are:

• Skills recognition and upskilling of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers
• Review and update of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary healthcare training package
• Review and update of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clinical log book
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker multimedia resource package
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander benchmarking and risk assessment
• Funding for 100 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers to complete the nationally accredited delivery of Certificate IV training and assessment course
• Develop an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker Health curriculum framework.
