Professor John Spencer is a leading contributor of information to oral health, dental practice and dental services information and policy in Australia through his involvement in population and clinical oral epidemiology. His key research interests are in the areas of preventive dentistry and dental practice. As the Director of the Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health he leads a strong group of epidemiology related researchers who bring both a specific interest in clinical preventive dentistry and a generic data management and biostatistics skills to this proposal.
Professor Spencer was awarded an International Association for Dental Research Distinguished Scientist Award in 2002. He received the H Trendley Dean Memorial Award for research in prevention and oral epidemiology. In 2005 he received the Alan Docking IADR Science Award for his achievement in dental research from the International Association for Dental Research, Australian and New Zealand Division.
He is Editor of Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology, International Advisor to Community Dental Health and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Australian Dental Journal.
