Biography

Dympna Leonard is a Public Health Nutritionist. She is currently based at James Cook University as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer teaching on the topic of nutrition in maternal and child health. Dympna also provides nutrition research support for the Apunipma Cape York Health Council nutrition team.

Prior to commencing in her current roles, Dympna held the role of Director of the Queensland Health Tropical Public Health Unit. She has also worked both nationally and internationally in Central Australia, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Ireland.

Dympna is now a PhD candidate in the Chronic Disease Prevention Centre in the Cairns Institute at James Cook University. For her PhD, Dympna will work on research examining health, nutrition and anaemia among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mothers and their children in far north Queensland.
