Improving service delivery to Aboriginal people with a disability : a review of the implementation of ADHC's Aboriginal Policy Framework and Aboriginal Consultation Strategy.

Sydney: NSW Ombudsman

The Improving service delivery to Aboriginal people with a disability: a review of the implementation of ADHC's Aboriginal Policy Framework and Aboriginal Consultation Strategy, reviews the implementation of Ageing, Disability and Home Care's (ADHC) Aboriginal policy framework and Aboriginal consultation strategy. The Aboriginal policy framework and Aboriginal consultation strategy were released in 2005 as a guide for ADHC's staff to improve service delivery to Indigenous peoples in NSW. The review details the strengths and weaknesses of the framework and strategy currently in place and provides some recommendations for ADHC's staff to strengthen their service delivery.

Access for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disabilities: policy and practice plan.

Perth, WA: Disability Services Commission

This policy and practice plan report has been developed to provide information and services to Indigenous people with a disability, their families, and carers. The key focus of the report is to encourage and support services to adopt culturally responsive strategies and programs aimed at involving Indigenous participants.

To facilitate implementation of the policy across the disability sector, the Commission will provide initial training and guidance across a range of areas including:

  • working in partnership with staff from Indigenous controlled agencies
  • linking with local Indigenous communities to provide information on services
  • adopting strategies to encourage employment of Indigenous staff
  • ensuring the cultural competence of non-Indigenous staff.
