The development of this web resource recognises the urgent need to improve approaches to the nutritional health of Indigenous peoples. It is one component of the efforts required to improve the information and knowledge base necessary for the formulation of committed, long-term strategies and policies addressing nutritional health among Indigenous peoples.
In aiming to provide access to good quality information and resources about the nutritional health of Indigenous peoples, this web resource will include: reviews; guidelines; resources; programs and projects; policies and strategies; publications; and workforce information.
The web resource also provides the capacity for people involved in the area to actively share their information and experiences. It does this through support of a yarning place (an electronic network) that encourages electronic yarning and networking among people working across Australia to address the nutritional health of Indigenous peoples.
Development of this web resource and yarning place has been made possible with funds provided to the HealthInfoNet by the Australian Department of Health and Ageing's Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (OATSIH) and the health departments of NSW, WA, SA and Tasmania.
Development of this resource and yarning place is guided by the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nutrition Strategy and Action Plan (NATSINSAP) Steering Committee and a NATSINSAP project officer. The NATSINSAP 2000-2010 is the nationally agreed framework of action to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health through better nutrition. The NATSINSAP was approved and endorsed by a range of key stakeholders including the Australian Health Ministers after an extensive consultation phase. To progress implementation, a NATSINSAP project officer, under the guidance of a Steering committee and Reference group, was appointed and since 2006 the position has been hosted by the National Heart Foundation of Australia.

Meetings about the development of the web resource and yarning place will involve the NATSINSAP project officer, the Director of the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet and the HealthInfoNet's research/project officers.
