The bodies responsible for ethical approval are the Human Research Ethics Committees (HRECs). These are located at universities, research organisations, hospitals, and health departments and are available in all States and Territories. HRECs also provide guidance to researchers on how to best benefit Indigenous communities. The HRECs listed below deal with research relating to Indigenous people, either exclusively or as part of their mandate. A comprehensive list of general HRECs, including HRECs dealing with non-Indigenous research only, is avaiable from the NHMRC online list.
