Short wind booklets (2009)

Description

The Short wind booklets were developed to be used in conjunction with the Short wind flip chart. The booklets enhance the asthma health service delivery by re-enforcing the educational messages provided by the flip chart in a 'take home format'. There are three titles:

• asthma medicines
• how to take asthma medicine
• how to use puffers and spacers

In addition, there is a booklet for schools which help staff members to understand asthma in the students at their schools. Information includes:

• what asthma is
• the symptoms
• the triggers
  
• the medication and how to use it

The resources convey very clear simple messages. They are colourful and appealing.

When to use this resource

The short wind resources were created to meet the identified need in asthma education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in urban, remote and rural areas of Australia. They assist a range of health workers in conveying best practice asthma management in various settings Australia wide. They can be used by health workers in individual or group settings. The booklet for schools is not Indigenous specific.
