Grief and trauma leaflet series (2003)

Description

This series of three leaflets provide information on grief, loss, and trauma to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people understand and manage these life events. The leaflets cover the main aspects of grief and trauma, including:

• what is grief and loss?
• what can we do?
• what doesn't work?
• children and grief
• reaching out.

The three leaflets are titled:

• Sorry business: grief and loss
• Telling your story: getting over grief
• What do we tell the children when someone dies?

These leaflets were produced by the Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Council of South Australia.

When to use this resource

These leaflets would be helpful resources for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people who are experiencing grief, loss, or trauma. The information would help people to understand the feelings they're experiencing and what would, and wouldn't, help them to cope with these feelings. The leaflets would also be useful for people who are caring for children who are grieving as they would learn how children deal with grief and what they could do to help.
